Orbit Command Core
CONFIDENTIAL — NORTHWRKS
Integrated Command Facility

Orbit Command Core

A multi-team command environment requiring clearer relationships between departments, decision areas, and operational spaces.

01

Initial Condition

The facility supported several teams operating within a shared command environment, each with distinct responsibilities but overlapping spatial territory.

02

Existing Architecture

Teams shared common work areas without a clear structure for how their movement or communication should relate to one another. Coordination was possible, but so was unplanned interference.

03

System Exposure

The lack of defined relationships between teams created friction in day-to-day operations.

  • Unclear boundaries between team work areas
  • Movement patterns that unintentionally crossed between functions
  • Coordination spaces that were not clearly designated
04

Design Position

The objective was to give each team a defined spatial identity while preserving clear, intentional points of coordination between them.

05

Design Approach

Three requirements guided the redesign:

  • Distinct spatial zones for each operational team
  • Defined coordination spaces for cross-team collaboration
  • Movement pathways that reflect how teams actually work together
06

Architectural Intervention

The facility was reorganized around team structure and coordination needs.

Team Zoning

Each team was given a defined spatial zone that reflects its operational role, reducing ambiguity about territory and responsibility.

Coordination Spaces

Dedicated spaces were introduced specifically for cross-team collaboration, replacing informal, ad-hoc interaction points.

Movement Planning

Circulation routes were designed around how teams need to interact, reducing incidental crossover between unrelated functions.

07

Resulting Environment

Each team now operates within a clearly defined area. Collaboration happens in designated spaces built for that purpose, and movement between teams reflects genuine operational need.

08

Outcome

  • Team boundaries are clearly defined
  • Coordination happens in purpose-built spaces
  • Unplanned interference between teams has been reduced
Result

Command structure improved through spatial planning, with collaboration strengthened rather than restricted.

09

Northwrks Position

Shared environments work best when the relationships between teams are designed intentionally, rather than left to develop informally over time.

10

Engagement Context

Projects of this type require team zoning strategy, coordination space design, and movement planning across multi-team environments.

Collaboration strengthened through intentional spatial design.
